Join the Woonasquatucket River Watershed Council (WRWC), Rhode Island Sea Grant, and the Coastal Resources Management Council (CRMC) for a guided walk along the Woonasquatucket River Greenway to explore this Urban Coastal Greenway and how nature-based solutions are helping build resilience. Along the way, WRWC staff will share how trees, green infrastructure, and restored habitat work together to reduce flooding, improve water quality, support birds and other wildlife, and create healthier, more connected neighborhoods. You’ll also hear the story of the Greenway’s transformation from a neglected urban river into a thriving public space that provides safe places to walk, bike, gather, paddle, and experience nature. CRMC staff will discuss how the Urban Coastal Greenway program supports meaningful shoreline access in developed areas, and how CRMC’s Rhode Island Coastal and Estuarine Habitat Restoration Trust Fund provides grants to restore fragile ecosystems. This event is sponsored by the Woonasquatucket River Watershed Council, Rhode Island Sea Grant, and the Rhode Island Coastal Resources Management Council.
