The Rhode Island National History Survey’s new strategic plan emphasizes the importance of biodiversity conservation for the resilience of ecosystems … and human communities … under stress. Appropriately, the theme for the survey’s 2025 annual meeting is Resilience Through Biodiversity. The program will focus on where and how to find biodiversity around us, how to document it, threats to biodiversity, and what can we do to save it. Ornithologist and naturalist Dan Berard will preview the 2025 BioBlitz site, Glocester Land Trust’s Steere Hill Preserve, recounting his insights about the place from months of birding there. Lou Perrotti will talk about why his internationally recognized rescue projects for American burying beetles, New England cottontails, turtles, butterflies, and rattlesnakes are so important. David Gregg will give a sneak peek into BORIIS, the survey’s new biodiversity database.
