Take a pleasant May stroll through Newport’s beautiful Island Cemetery. Newport Tree Conservancy Living Collections Manager Joe Verstandig will share some of his recent plant discoveries in the cemetery, highlighting some interesting plant features. Lilacs will be a point of discussion, from their history in American cultivation, to how to grow and prune them for the best flowering effect. Other flowering trees and shrubs, such as Kwanzan cherries and dogwoods, should be peaking as well.
