SUMMARY:Climate Solutions for Homeowners and Municipalities
DESCRIPTION:Rhode Island’s buildings emit almost 40% of the state’s greenhouse gases — emissions that must drop to zero by mid century to comply with state law and to help avoid the worst consequences of climate change. In this talk\, Brown University professor Stephen Porder will discuss the opportunities and challenges facing homeowners and municipalities in achieving this goal. He will focus on practical\, scalable solutions that are available now\, and he will highlight several local examples that serve as models for an emissions-free future. This event is free and open to the public.

SUMMARY:Unsettling Invasiveness – Migratory Relatives and Their Roles in Ecosystems We Share
DESCRIPTION:How do educators talk about non-native species in ways that uphold respect\, relationality\, and responsibility? What does it mean to honor all beings—including those labeled “invasive”—as sacred life? In this Rhode Island Environmental Education Association workshop\, Jeffrey Yoo Warren and lotus rodriguez invite educators to explore how colonial frameworks shape language\, teaching\, and relationships with migratory species\, and examine how the concept of “invasiveness” can carry harmful narratives\, especially for youth whose identities and communities have also been marked by displacement\, migration\, or forced resettlement. This participatory workshop includes hands-on creative work (zine-making)\, reflective dialogue\, and embodied activities. Educators will leave with tools and perspectives to support more inclusive\, critical\, and compassionate environmental education—centering youth voice and experience along the way.

SUMMARY:Climate Bills Memorial Service
DESCRIPTION:***DUE TO RAIN\, THIS EVENT HAS BEEN RESCHEDULED FOR SUNDAY\, JUNE 29 AT 2 p.m.*** \nState leadership has failed the people of Rhode Island this legislative session when it comes to climate action. Only one of the 20 bills Climate Action Rhode Island endorsed passed. These bills\, like so many others\, were meant to take the steps we need if we want to have a livable future and avert climate catastrophe. To mark this year’s disappointment\, CARI will stage some political theater — a funeral ceremony to mark the “passing” (death) of all of these bills. Together\, we’ll honor the work\, grieve the losses\, and recommit to the fight.
