SUMMARY:Wednesday Wonder Walk - Habitat Hunters
DESCRIPTION:The Westerly Land Trust is joining WildRoots for Wednesday Wonder Walks\, a guided family hiking series curated to spark curiosity and nurture a lifelong love of nature. Each session invites children and their families to slow down\, look closely\, and discover the magic of the natural world together. Every month features a new theme and a new Westerly Land Trust property\, giving young explorers the chance to get to know their local environment. April’s theme is Habitat Hunters and will be held at Champlin Farm Preserve. For Earth Day\, Habitat Hunters will set out on an outdoor adventure to search for the hidden homes of the creatures that share the landscape. With curious eyes and gentle footsteps\, students will look for nests tucked in branches\, burrows beneath roots\, tracks crossing muddy paths\, and cozy shelters made from leaves\, bark\, and stone.

SUMMARY:Birds of the Archives: Ornithology Materials in the John Hay Library
DESCRIPTION:Come celebrate birds and spring migration at Brown University’s John Hay Library with a collaboration between Brown for Science Diplomacy and the Hay: an ornithology talk and a library open house. The event will start with a talk by Nicole Moody on the history of ornithology and the field’s current directions. Following the talk\, there will be a Q&A and a brief catered reception. After that\, attendees are invited to browse through a selection of rare bird books and archival objects. The Hay houses a substantial collection of ornithology-related materials\, including John James Audubon’s iconic double-elephant folio Birds of America\, President Theodore Roosevelt’s birding field notes\, hard-to-find publications on New England birds\, magazines dating back to the 1880s\, and first editions of some of ornithology’s foundational texts. The event is free and open to the public. Registration is required and will be checked at the door.
