DESCRIPTION:Local news is the lifeblood of democracy\, but the business model that has long sustained local news is under tremendous strain. Join several of the state’s leading news people from TV\, print\, online and other media outlets for a half-day conference on the future of local news — including ecoRI News’ publisher and co-founder Joanna Detz. Keynote presentations will be given by: Elizabeth Hansen Shapiro\, co-founder and CEO of the National Trust for Local News and David Cicilline\, president and CEO\, Rhode Island Foundation. This event is free to attend\, but registration is required.

SUMMARY:Gallery Opening: Caroline Anderson - 'Climate Crisis'
DESCRIPTION:Throughout the month of April\, the Gallery at Central will present the paintings of artist Caroline Anderson. She is a founding member of “Climate Artists” – a climate crisis-focused collective of five artists from across the United States. Anderson’s paintings operate within the tension of “hypernormalization\,” a concept that offers a framework for understanding how contemporary life continues to feel stable despite the presence of multiple\, overlapping crises. Anderson will also hold a Gallery Talk at the church on April 19 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
