Shad, a species of fish native to southeast Massachusetts, plays an important role in coastal and freshwater ecosystems, and they are steeped in early American history with ties to George Washington and the Continental Army. Tune in as we are joined by James Garner, a UMass Amherst Ph.D. candidate with the Department of Environmental Conservation, and John Sheppard from the Massachusetts Division of Marine Fisheries. Learn about shad, their life cycle, local populations, and the challenges they face.
