Tree Walk: Eisenhower Park and Touro Synagogue

  • Date

    September 21

  • Time

    9:00 am

  • Location

    Newport, R.I.

Tour the center of Newport’s urban forest with Newport Tree Conservancy’s living collections manager, Joe Verstandig. Attendees will observe several individual specimen trees thriving downtown. Washington Square (Eisenhower Park) has historically been home to stately trees, most notably American elms that towered over nearby buildings. Joe will discuss the history of the site, view some impressive plants extant there, and touch on the science of urban forestry. The tour will also venture a short way to see some smaller points of interest. Please dress appropriately for a walking tour and bring your own water bottle.
