SUMMARY:Spanish for Environmental Justice: "Optar por el activismo. A Honduran Migrant's Quest to Support Social Change\," with Melvin Álvarez
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the third and last installment of the Spanish for Environmental Justice Series\, where local activists will discuss the most pressing environmental challenges in our communities and strategies for addressing them. Melvin Alvarez is the grant program manager at 11th Hour Racing\, where he leads efforts to advance solutions that protect and restore ocean health through strategic grant-making. Born and raised in Honduras\, Melvin migrated to the U.S. at 15. Since then\, he has been deeply committed to social and environmental justice advocacy\, believing that justice work is a lifelong and rewarding pursuit. In his talk\, Melvin will share his journey from being a social justice advocate in high school to becoming a climate advocate in college. He will discuss his role in helping pass the Save Our Seas 2.0 Act while working for the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) in Washington\, D.C\, and his current work in philanthropy\, including his recent role in securing a $2 million fund for ocean justice. This series of talks are conducted in Spanish and are open to the public.
