SUMMARY:Newport Tree Canopy Open House
DESCRIPTION:Join the Newport Tree Conservancy for an open house at Innovate Newport hosted by The Green Infrastructure Center (GIC) in partnership with the city of Newport to discuss and vote on strategies for the city to promote trees for reducing urban heat\, mitigating flood damage\, and improving community health. Currently\, 36% of Newport’s land is covered by impervious surfaces (pavement\, concrete\, buildings) and 19% of the city is covered by trees. The goal is to increase tree cover to 21% over the next decade.
